The Rhea County Republican Party Monthly Meeting

The next meeting of the Rhea County Republicans is scheduled for June 4th, at 7:00 PM, at the Rhea County Sheriff’s Training Center, located at 711 Eagle Drive, in Evensville, TN.  Bring a friend!

MINUTES FROM EXCOM MEETING – 5 MAY 2020

Chairperson Bitsy Gryder opened the meeting, held at the Rhea County Fairgrounds, at 4:06 PM.

The agenda for the meeting was the discussion of the Reagan Day Dinner.  Joe and Bitsy Gryder reported on possible new options to replace the dinner that had been scheduled for April 4.  That dinner was canceled because of the corona virus outbreak.

Option 1 would involve pursuing the Rhea County High School venue again when it is available later in the year.

Option 2 would be to hold the event at the Rhea County Fairgrounds this summer.

After discussion, it was unanimously agreed by the Executive Committee to plan for the event to be held at the fairgrounds.  Advantages for choosing the fairground venue were that the event can be held before the August 6 election, the cost of $150 will be considerably less than that for the high school, and it will afford an opportunity to have something of a different variety than our usual formal dinner.

Also unanimously agreed to was that the event be a BBQ/country-style, casual dress, open air event.  The latest available date of Friday, July 17th, was chosen, with Thursday, July 9th, being a second choice.

Plans are for the event to begin in late afternoon/early evening.  A catered picnic meal could be provided at the covered seating area by the concession stand, with tables spread out to help with social-distancing.  After the meal, attendees can move to the nearby livestock barn, where chairs would be set up for people to hear the various speakers and political candidates.

Silent auction items will be displayed in the building across from the concession stand.  That building also provides additional bathroom facilities.  A short, live auction will be held in the barn after the speakers finish.  Randy Boyd has offered to honor his donation of a baseball game-day party into 2021, since this year’s baseball schedule is uncertain due to virus issues.  The game-day party will be included in the auction.

Larry Pendergrass made the offer that he and his son can smoke Boston Butts if, for some reason, the meal cannot be catered.

Activities for children were discussed, as well as the possibility of booking a band and perhaps seeking use of the Master Gardener building as part of the venue.

Ticket prices remain at $50.  Refunds have been offered to those who have already purchased tickets if they are unable to attend on the new date.

Kris Bancroft and Marvin Keener will be asked to notify members of the Reagan Day event once the date has been determined.

Bitsy announced that U. S. Senate candidate Manny Sethi’s campaign is bringing yard signs in the next week or two for those interested.

Bitsy also announced that regular meetings of the Rhea County Republican Party are planned to resume on June 4th.

Today’s meeting ended at 4:43 pm.

EDITORIAL

The HEROES Act, H.R. 6800 (See LEGISLATIVE REPORT), is an 1815 page bill, crafted in Nancy Pelosi’s office, with much of the language furnished by special interest groups – K Street lobbyists.

The bill was never reviewed by any of the usual committees in the House of Representatives.

As has been the standard operating procedure during Nancy Pelosi’s tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, not one Republican took part in the crafting of the bill.  The HEROES Act belongs entirely to the Democrats, and this is a fact that Republicans should never allow to be forgotten, although I’m reasonably certain a few already have.

H.R. 6800 was introduced on 13 May and passed on 15 May.  Other than Madam Speaker’s cabal, no Republicans and only a very few Democrats had the opportunity to read the bill before they voted on it.

At $3+ Trillion, H.R. 6800 is the largest spending bill in U.S. history.

As a point of reference, $3 Trillion equates to about 90% of our country’s entire budget for an average year.  But, remember please, this $3 Trillion is in addition to the $2+ Trillion Wuhan virus relief bill passed earlier, and both are in addition to all the normal spending.

Our treasury does not have the money to fund both bills and our country’s normal operating budget so where will that money come from?

We will have to borrow it!

And we will borrow most of it from . . . China.  You know, that country that gave us the Wuhan virus in the first place.

Are you screaming yet?  If not, read on, you soon will be.

In analyzing the components of H.R. 6800 one uncovers some very disturbing facts.

  • Cannabis is mentioned 68 times, focusing on women- and minority-owned cannabis enterprises.
  • Speaking of minority-owned enterprises, this bill provides direct aid – bailouts – for banks that are owned or run by women or minorities.
  • The bill would virtually empty out Federal prisons – there is a provision that all prisoners over fifty years of age and all prisoners who suffer from asthma or diabetes shall be released from custody.
  • A million dollar grant is allocated to the National Science Foundation to study Wuhan virus “misinformation.” (Does George Orwell’s description of the “Department of Truth” in his classic novel 1984 come to mind?)
  • The bill repeals the cap on state and local tax deductions which specifically benefits the high-income neighborhoods in “Blue States,” and Blue State governments, of course! In other words, those of us in states with relatively low state and local taxes would be once again subsidizing the tax refunds given to states with high state and local taxes.
  • To add insult to injury, there is a set-aside for lobbyists and lobbying firms in Washington DC – the very same ones that were the authors of H.R. 6800.
  • There is an $80 million “stimulus package” for Planned Parenthood.
  • More than $50 billion is allocated to illegal aliens. (This figure is based on each illegal alien receiving $1200 – just as citizens have – and there being 42 million illegal aliens in our country (a very conservative number).
  • In addition to the billions of dollars given to illegal aliens, the bill has a provision that prevents their deportation for so long as the Wuhan virus remains a “threat” – a term, of course that must be defined by the Democrats.
  • Oh, and by the way, those employers who have hired illegal aliens are protected from prosecution. This is unlawful “amnesty” and it will never be removed.

But, alas, H.R. 6800 passed by only a slim margin – 208 to 199 – mostly because fourteen Democrats saw fit to vote contrary to Nancy Pelosi’s command.  No doubt those Democrats will suffer Pelosi’s painful vituperations, and shall likely never be appointed important roles within the Party for so long as she holds “the Gavel.”

The sad part though is eleven Republicans – enough to have defeated the bill – did not vote!

John Ratcliffe (TX 4th Dist.) may have been preparing for, or in the midst of, his grilling in the Senate prior to being approved to serve as the new Director of National Intelligence, but I’ve not been able to learn why any of the Republicans missed the vote.

Perhaps that is a question we should pose to Representatives Rooney (FL 19th Dist.), Shimkus (IL 15th Dist.), Marshall (KS 1st Dist.), Mitchell (MI 10th Dist.), Lucas (OK 3rd Dist.), DesJarlais (TN 4th Dist.), Wright (TX 6th Dist.), Granger (TX 12th Dist.), Marchant (TX 24th Dist.), and Carter (TX 31st Dist.).

Of course we must take into consideration any unknown extenuating circumstances that might have prevented their being present for voting but a diligent search on Members of Congress who have tested positive for the Wuhan virus, or are under self-imposed quarantine did not include the names of those who missed the vote on H.R. 6800.

https://www.businessinsider.com/4-members-of-congress-self-quarantine-after-cpac-coronavirus-alert-2020-3

And, speaking of the “unknowns,” Peter King, the alleged Republican from the 2nd District of New York, voted with the Democrats!  Why Peter King is allowed to remain in the Republican Party is a mystery to many, I’m sure!

But, all this is crying over spilt milk.

While I was most certainly angered by all the totally ridiculous carve outs and spending components in H.R. 6800, I found none to be more insulting than the bailouts for the several states who have had a long reputation for their gross mismanagement of revenues and, to be fair, the downright criminal activities that have robbed blind the hard working citizens in their states.

Before moving forward with assembling my thoughts on the cleverly crafted language in Ms. Pelosi’s bill that provided bailouts for New York, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and California, I took some time to reflect on what we call this country of ours – the United States of America.  I spent some time thinking about how we’re all in this together.  I thought about the pain and suffering of those citizens in every state who have lost loved ones, who’ve seen their life savings vaporize before their eyes, who’ve lost their capacity to earn a living, and who’ve watched their dreams for a secure future destroyed by a thing that should never brought them harm – the Wuhan virus.

My thoughts turned to the Governors – past and present – of those “Blue States” whom the rest of America urged to adopt more fiscally responsible management.  I remembered how each and every one of them were quick to tell us to mind our own (expletive) business.  They were lightning-quick in reminding us that they were free to do exactly as they pleased because they had rights under the Tenth Amendment and they didn’t need any of us fiscal hawks trying to tell them what they should or should not do.

As I pondered all this, I began thinking about an essay I wrote more than a few years ago, an essay on the fundamentals of sound economic principles and fiscal responsibility.

In the essay I presented Seven Rules that have proven to be valid under the harshest of scrutiny.  In the case of H.R. 6800, Rules #2 and #7 apply.  Briefly, they are:

  1. There is no such thing as “free.”  Ultimately, everything exchanged has a price.  Where our government is concerned, every dollar one person or entity receives from the government represents one dollar that was confiscated from another person or entity.
  2. We must never reward bad behavior. Doing so only compels those whom we “reward” to continue behaving badly.  When we give our money to charities or invest our money in businesses the wise among us monitor how that gift or investment is used.  The same is true when we give money to our children.  If the recipients of our money fail to use it wisely, we grow cautious.  We modify our thinking and rightfully so.

It’s all a bit different when it comes to the government, isn’t it?   We don’t have an immediate choice when it comes to controlling the amount of money our government confiscates from us and, much less it seems, what they do with it.  But, sooner or later, we do have a choice, and that choice comes on Election Day.

Unfortunately though, most of us never take the time to understand just how it is that our government continues to make one financial blunder after another, and many of us who do understand their “bad behavior” seem disinclined to do more than whine about it to our friends.  We are, in essence, rewarding our government by failing to admonish them with our vote when they allow (or encourage) trillions of our dollars to disappear down one rabbit hole or another.

And so it has been for nearly two hundred years.

Back in January of 2020, our national debt was in the neighborhood of $23+ trillion.  Should all the Wuhan virus be signed into law, our nation’s debt will, by best estimates, grow to $30 trillion!  Here’s a handy link you can use to watch as your great grandchildren inherit a bankrupt country.    https://www.usdebtclock.org/

Still, $30 trillion is an unfathomable number, so let me see if I can put it into context for you:  A dollar bill is 6 inches long.  If you laid thirty trillion dollar bills end-to-end, they would measure 2,840,909,090.9 miles – Two Billion, Eight Hundred Forty Million, Nine Hundred Nine Thousand, Ninety Point Nine Miles!   That’s approximately the same distance from the Earth to Pluto!

Those who would try to marginalize this fact might say “Well, it has taken 184 years to accumulated this much debt and there have been many tragic events that have led us to the position we’re in today.”

My response would be to agree that, yes, we have not had a balanced budget since 1836, when Andrew Jackson was President, a man who was probably the last fiscal conservative to ever occupy the Oval Office.  Since then, every President and every Member of the House of Representatives and every Senator has operated under the notion that we must never let a crisis go to waste.  The Wuhan virus has proven to be the crisis of a lifetime!

Can we stop this fiscal insanity?  There exists one glimmer of hope and that glimmer only has a chance if “We the People” speak with one voice to DEMAND of those whom we honor and trust with our vote do the following:

  1. Craft and pass a “clean bill act” such as H.R. 6211 that prohibits earmarks in all future legislation. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/116/hr6211/text
  2. Appoint an Independent Contractor to conduct a complete and thorough audit of all governmental departments, agencies, bureaus, and offices to determine which of these entities are:
    1. Failing to fulfill their mission statements;
    2. Duplicating the mission of another government entity;
    3. Cannot account for 100% of their funding, or;
    4. Have used their legal or regulatory authority to discriminate or persecute any individual citizen or private enterprise.
  3. Should it be determined that any government entity or any of the entity’s management has failed in any areas covered by 2.a. through 2.d., that government entity shall be:
    1. Defunded and eliminated, and;
    2. Where appropriate, the management of the government entity shall be appropriately prosecuted for violations of Federal law.

We have an election coming up in November.  Every Member of the House of Representatives and 1/3 of all Senators will be up for reelection.  They must have your vote if they are to remain in office and, now more than ever, those who are up for reelection are most willing to LISTEN!  If you are as concerned as I am about the country we are bequeathing to our children, I hope you will take time to let your elected representatives know how you feel.  They work for you – not the other way around!

ADDENDUM:

Over the past three months you have had an opportunity to read my analysis of major bills, including those relative to the Wuhan virus.  In the way of a quick review, in the April edition I presented an analysis of H.R.748/S 3548 The CARES Act ($2.2 trillion) and H.R. 6074 Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act ($8 billion).  In the May edition, I reported on H.R. 266 the Paycheck Protection Program and Healthcare Enhancement Act ($481 billion).  In this edition, you will find an analysis of H.R. 6800 The HEROES Act ($3+ trillion).

Consider the number of government agencies that are not fulfilling a purpose sanctioned by our Constitution, and those that have never met their mission statement yet continue receiving huge budgets each year.  Some examples include the Department of Energy, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of Education.  When one looks at their performance (or lack thereof), it’s hard to not become angry or nauseated.

Even those departments and agencies that are sanctioned by our Constitution are failing in their mission and are poorly run.  Over the past few years, the Pentagon reported they had “lost” more than $16 billion.  During the 0bama regime, we witnessed how the Department of Labor (OSHA), the Department of the Treasury (IRS), and the Department of Justice (FBI) were “weaponized” against conservatives.  Does anyone recall any of the management of those government entities being sent off to prison for their crimes?  Nope!  No one lost their pension or went to jail.  That can mean only one thing:  We the People are gleefully rewarding bad behavior.  Will that ever change?  For as long as the majority of us remain silent, you can bet your bottom dollar it won’t!

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the rich out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that it first doesn’t take from someone else.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

When half the people get the idea they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

SUPREME COURT RENDERS A DECISION ON ILLEGAL ALIENS

Jason Hopkins, Immigration and Politics Reporter for The Daily Caller reported on a Supreme Court decision that upholds a federal statute that forbids encouraging illegal aliens to remain in the United States.  This unanimous decision – written by of all people Ruth Bader Ginsberg! – shredded a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision that the federal anti-harboring statute violated the First Amendment by restricting free speech.

While this decision upholds a 2010 Grand Jury indictment against Evelyn Sineneng-Smith, an “immigration consultant attorney” who raked in more than $3 million over a few years, we must wonder if those persons in elected office who have declared their cities and states to be “sanctuaries” for illegal aliens have indictments just beyond the horizon.  Certainly, encouraging our elected representatives to offer criminal referrals on such matters would, perhaps, make such indictments more probable.

ON THE MATTER OF VOTING BY MAIL

The first response to the Democrats advocacy of holding the next election via mail-in ballots should be a sarcastic “what could possibly go wrong?”  Echoes of past stories of voter fraud suddenly appeared as a blast from the past.

The next question is what do the Democrats have up their sleeves?  To this question there is a more definitive answer:  The Democrats know their chances of winning this upcoming election improve exponentially if voting is conducted by mail.  The DNC knows they are better organized, they know their operatives are willing to humble themselves and get out to do all the unglamorous work of knocking on doors and “helping” the voters they contact to fill out all those complicated ballots, making certain all the right boxes are filled in.

Most Republicans laugh haughtily and proclaim that Biden is not going to win the White House, no matter what the Democrats do.  Those Republicans might be right but all those mail-in ballots have yet to be counted.  However, there is much more to the 2020 election than selecting a President.

This November, American citizens (with help from more than a few non-citizens, I’m sure) will choose all Members of the House and one-third of the Senate.

Unless the Republicans get busy today, the Democrats will not only hold their majority in the House of Representatives but gain the majority in the Senate – maybe even a super majority that would enable them to override a presidential veto!

As of this writing, there’s a fair chance the Democrats will improve their majority in the House by some 60 seats.  If that should turn out to be the case, the Republicans would have virtually no chance of getting any of President Trump’s agenda passed.

I shared these concerns with a few folks who subscribe to this newsletter, and their reaction was no less disconcerting than my own.  As veteran observers of innumerable political shenanigans of bygone days, everyone with whom I have discussed the question of voting by mail has had virtually the same response:  They do NOT trust local governments to receive and accurately count ballots that have been mailed to them.

Harrison Lapahie, Ship Rock, NM reminds us that, according to an article appearing in the Investor’s Business Daily, the United States has 3.5 million more registered voters than live adults.  In reading the article, do you think there’s a possibility of voter fraud in the upcoming election?  https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/u-s-has-3-5-million-more-registered-voters-than-live-adults-a-red-flag-for-electoral-fraud/

Dawn Shaffer, Baton Rouge, LA added a report published by Real Clear Politics that 28 Million mail-in ballots went missing in the last four elections.  https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/04/24/28_million_mail- in_ballots_went_missing_in_last_four_elections_143033.html?fbclid=IwAR33PPDqwj_u_L42BREXSLbQSZLYN0m-8IgKm534leo8xWDlIvGn-t1f6Q8

So, who is it suddenly clamoring for mail-in voting?

The obvious answer is that party who are hoping it will benefit their candidates.  Since Amy Klobuchar and her colleagues in the House and Senate are threatening a hissy fit unless they get a $400 million earmark in the sequel to the CARES Act, I think it’s safe to assume those keen on mail-in voting would be the Democrats. https://techcrunch.com/2020/04/13/coronavirus-vote-by-mail-wyden-klobuchar/

One would be remiss to not ask where voter fraud occurs.  Since 1980, 48 federal cases have been prosecuted in Illinois; 21 cases were prosecuted in New York State,

17 cases were prosecuted in New Jersey; 11 cases in Michigan, and; 44 federal cases have been prosecuted in California.   https://www.heritage.org/voterfraud/#choose-a-state

Of all these cases, one instance that stands out in history was a case in Illinois, back in 1982.  The DOJ estimated that 100,000 fraudulent ballots were cast in the gubernatorial primary.  The investigation was tipped off by a party worker from Chicago’s 29th Ward, who was upset by his Precinct Captain’s broken promise to award him a city job for his participation in the vote fraud scheme.  The conspirators cast ballots for people who were elderly and disabled.  In all, 63 individuals were convicted in the largest voter fraud case in DOJ history.

Would it surprise you to learn that more than 96% of all voter fraud convictions are Democrats?

So, do you think we will get a fair election if the Democrats get their way and allow mailed-in ballots?

Do you think this matter is worthy of your time to express your views to your elected representatives?

QUESTION OF THE MONTH

What is your confidence level that William Barr, Attorney General, will prosecute members of the 0bama regime for their criminal activities in attempting a coup against President Trump sometime in 2021?

0-25%

26-50%

51-75%

76%-100%

[Please email to pyrope84045@mypacks.net to share your response with your fellow conservatives.  A score on each of the questions will be published in the next edition of The Rhea County Republican.  THANKS! – Editor]

Last month’s question – actually three questions – yielded 41 responses.  (Thank you!)

Given that China has, in innumerable ways, revealed itself beyond any reasonable doubt to be an enemy of the United States:

  1. Do you think the United States should increase tariffs on Chinese goods until the American people have been fully compensated for the harm they have caused? 41 votes “Yes” – 0 votes “No.”
  2. Will you write a letter, send an email, or make a phone call today to express your views on this proposal? 33 votes “Yes” – 8 votes “No.”  (Most respondents felt communications to their elected representatives were never given serious consideration.)
  3. In the interim, will you show your solidarity with your fellow Citizens by boycotting all products imported from China and urge your friends to do the same! 41 votes “Yes” – 0 votes “No.”

Governor Lee Releases Citizens’ Personal Data

Governor Bill Lee says the State’s release to police departments and sheriff’s offices of the names and addresses of Tennesseans who have tested positive for the Wuhan virus is necessary to protect officers’ lives.  That information is also being independently shared between various health officials.  Some claim this decision is a violation of our rights under the Fourth Amendment.  You can visit the following links to determine whether or not you think your 4th Amendment rights have been compromised.

Chattanooga’s Economy is Extremely Vulnerable

Lending Tree recently conducted a nation-wide survey to determine which U.C. cities’ economies were most vulnerable during a pandemic (or other major health crises and Chattanooga came in 4th place.  The reason cited by Lending Tree is Chattanooga’s economy is almost totally reliant on income from the “Service Industry,” which includes food and accommodation, retail, arts & entertainment, and recreation sectors.

To understand how severely Chattanooga’s economy has been impacted by the Wuhan virus, all we need to do is drive around.  No matter where one goes in Chattanooga, one will see restaurants and bars practically stacked on top of one another, small and large retail outlets on almost any street, small galleries filled with one-off items, theatres and, of course those “Main Attractions:” Lookout Stadium (that used to be home to the Chattanooga Lookouts), Hunter Art Gallery that averages fewer than 20 visitors per day, numerous Civil War museums, and the Chattanooga Aquarium that attracts nowhere near as many people as the “Dollywood Fish Tank.”

Since the pandemic was “declared” all the bars, restaurants, and touristy venues have been shuttered . . . and the bankers holding the loans on all these enterprises are shuddering in fear that the owners will default and disappear.

Businesses in Tennessee are just beginning to turn on the lights as the Wuhan virus begins to appear in our rearview mirror.  The total business casualties have not yet been recorded but the general feeling is that Chattanooga, with its service-based economy will take years to recover.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY

Jeff Jordan Defending Liberty in Northern Virginia

Voters in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District (Arlington area) finally have an opportunity to elect a true conservative to the House of Representatives this November.  His name is Jeff Jordan, and his platform is one not seen among the candidates inside the beltway for quite some time!

Jeff Jordan’s main objective is to defeat creeping socialism in America.  He believes rights without responsibility is tyranny, and responsibility without rights is slavery.  He rejects the vision of the tyrannical collectivists and their socialist ideologies as they are as immoral, irrational, and repugnant as slavery.

As a pro-life candidate, Jeff was recently quoted as saying “The right to life is the first inalienable right.”  He believes the ability to make choices is the essence of freedom, but the choice to have a child or to engage in activity that may result in a child must be made before, not after.  He went on to say “The right to life is the first inalienable right under the Constitution of the United States and we as civilized, rational, and loving people must protect all lives and all liberties, including those of the unborn. They are human beings too!”

“2A All The Way” summarizes Jeff’s position on our right to keep and bear arms.  “To keep (have) and bear (use) arms is the quintessential right of the U.S. Constitution that prohibits governmental infringement upon individual ownership of any arms, guns included, and government officials are obligated to protect that right along with the rest of our constitutional rights when they swear their oath of office.  Specifically regarding firearms, any gun control should come in the form of gun safety and education for all citizens, teaching them how to practice and exhibit self-control when handling them.  When I suggest that people should be educated on the proper and safe handling of firearms, I’m suggesting that we re-introduce such curriculum into our school system as we used to have.  For those that are beyond their formative school years, it would not be mandated for them to take such training/education, but it should be the government’s obligation to provide such training/education at no cost.  It is the government’s responsibility to protect Constitutional rights, not to obstruct/violate them.”

On the matter of illegal immigration, it has been a long time since voters in northern Virginia have had an opportunity to vote for someone who respects and would adhere to our laws.  Jeff Jordan has taken the following position:  “Those who enter illegally must be deported immediately, and the government officials who advocate and vote for sanctuary jurisdictions should be charged with felony obstruction of justice, as well as aiding and abetting criminal activity.  Furthermore, they should be held accountable as accessories to every criminal act committed by those here illegally.”  In other words, those elected representatives who have established sanctuary policies would be prosecuted for their crimes!

Jeff Jordan sees healthcare as a service, not a right, and the government’s role is to administer policies that facilitate the streamlining of health service processes and systems in a way that improves access and reduces costs.  Additionally, he advocates that any healthcare policy should appropriately address the input-side of the system including food safety, standards, and labeling – including the country of origin.

On addressing the problems with public education, Jeff Jordan is the first candidate I’ve heard in quite some time to say our young people need to learn how to think instead of being told what to think.  His proposal for raising the standards in our education system would be accomplished by establishing a Federal policy that would return our educational institutions to their former prominence as bastions of diversified thinking and discussion.  He believes taxpayer funding should be denied to those institutions that fail their responsibility to uphold those democratic ideals.

To all readers, especially those in northern Virginia, I hope you’ll tell your friends over in Arlington about Jeff Jordan and help support him any way you can.  Following is contact information:

RANDOM THOUGHTS

Five hundred years ago, during a recurrence of the Bubonic Plague, Martin Luther penned the following about his approach to being of service and comfort to his fellow citizens:  “I shall ask God to mercifully protect us.  Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine and take it.  I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence.”  His remarks are so relevant they might have been written this morning.

RANDOM THOUGHTS

Lawyers for California Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday told a panel of federal judges the state is taking “extraordinary and unprecedented protective measures” to slow the spread of the virus and protect those who live and work within California’s 35 prisons. The accelerated prison discharges — affecting inmates due to be released over the next 60 days — come in the face of pressure to do much more.  So far, 3,500 prisoners have been released from California jails.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-03-31/coronavirus-california-release-3500-inmates-prisons.  Meanwhile, authorities are arresting citizens caught going for walks on the beach.

Not to be outdone, Ohio, Illinois and New York are also emptying their prisons.

One violent felon was rearrested only thirty seven minutes after his release, but the police are also limiting the number of people they arrest.  New York Mayor De Blasio has instructed law enforcement to ignore “low-level crimes.”  Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has reduced his Department’s daily number of arrests from 300 down to 60. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8121651/Los-Angeles-County-release-600-inmates-cuts-daily-arrests-300-60-against-coronavirus-spread.html

RANDOM THOUGHTS

The former occupant of the White House once again shows his true colors as he endorses Ammar Campa Najjar, grandson of Muhammad Yusuf al-Najjar, a Palestinian terrorist and member of the terrorist group Black September.  Can there be any question as to where Barrack Hussein 0bama’s loyalties lie?  https://deplorablekel.com/2018/10/04/obama-endorses-grandson-of-terrorist-for-congress-in-california/?fbclid=IwAR3l36jIeOjHLHGyS_TNGbuQ5wbycx5iIWgW0-qranaG_55g_ex7wZ2kqs4

RANDOM THOUGHTS

This story might qualify for the “Boondoggle of the Year Award.”

News has surfaced that the TSA spent approximately $77 million to purchase 287 dogs trained to sniff out explosives.  The problem is, these dogs are not able to detect most types of explosives.

This should not come as a shocker to those who’ve kept up with the TSA’s dismal record of dismal performance failures and historically unacceptable record of waste, fraud, and abuse.  The 50,000 people who comprise the TSA have been in operation since 2001, and they still can’t get it right.

Lisa Schiffren, The Bronx, NY commented on an article in the New York Times:  “When you release all the criminals who were locked up, and close business, schools, and parks, and deny police masks and PPE, so that a large percentage are home sick —of course the crime rate shoots up.  Shootings in NYC up almost 300%. Murder doubled. Congratulations Mayor De Blasio.  Brilliant work.”  https://nypost.com/2020/05/16/nyc-shootings-up-nearly-200-compared-to-same-time-last-year/?fbclid=IwAR0lMnKuZqO98ws3GmSlj1o8ui9Ll_JumGTXSkE7zjM-XAGlYR8OwESZoSY

Paul Blakely, Centerville, AL.  “China has proven to be our enemy in many ways but in no way more certain than their allowing the COVID-19 virus to infect the rest of the world, and especially our country.  They depend on our money to pay for their tyranny and evil deeds and I have decided they will never get another penny from me.  I’m going to stop buying things made in China and stop buying things made in the USA by companies owned by the Chinese.  The following is a list of companies owned by China.  I hope you’ll join me in refusing to buy their products and share this information with the people who read your newsletter.  If you know of any more Chinese-owned companies I hope you’ll let me know.  Thanks!”

  • The world’s largest pork producer, American company Smithfield Foods, was acquired by a Chinese corporation in 2013? Shareholders approved the sale of the company to Shuanghui International Holdings Limited, the biggest meat processor in China.
  • The Hoover brand was sold to Hong Kong, China-based firm Techtronic Industries in 2006 after Maytag, which owned Hoover, was acquired by Whirlpool.
  • In January 2014, Motorola Mobility was sold by Google to Chinese computer corporation, Lenovo, which means that the nation that invented smart phones is just about entirely out of the business of producing smart phones in America. This acquisition will give one of China’s most prominent technology companies a broader foothold in the U. S. Lenovo is the same company that bought IBM’s line of personal computers in 2004.
  • Since 2009, Chinese companies have invested billions of dollars acquiring significant percentages of shares of energy companies, such as The AES Corp., Chesapeake Energy, and Oil & Gas Assets. In 2010, China Communications Construction Co. bought 100% of Friede Goldman United, and in 2012, A-Tech Wind Power (Jiangxi) bought 100% of Cirrus Wind Energy.
  • Companies Now Owned by the Chinese,” the following list of American companies acquired by Chinese investors in 2016:
    • Starwood Hotels acquired by Anbang Insurance, a Chinese insurance company that is rapidly buying up U.S. hotels…It is the latest hotel acquisition by the Chinese insurer, which last year bought the company that owns New York’s Waldorf-Astoria. Starwood would add 1,300 hotels around the world to Anbang’s portfolio.
    • Ingram Micro, which is No. 62 on the Fortune 500, bought by Tianjin Tianhai Investment Development Co., a Chinese firm that specializes in aviation and logistics.
    • General Electric Appliance Business was bought by Qingdao Haier Co.
    • Terex Corp., an 83-year-old Connecticut-based company that makes machinery for construction, agricultural, and industrial purposes, was bought by Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science.
    • Legendary Entertainment Group, which has co-financed a number of major movies like Jurassic Park, Godzilla, and Pacific Rim, was bought by Dalian Wanda, which also bought AMC Entertainment Holdings, the U.S.’s second largest movie chain at the time of purchase, but now #1.https://www.industryweek.com/…/should-we-allow-the…

Rocky Silverman, Seattle, Washington offered the following comment relative to a link he shared:

“The root difficulties of our present fight against the Wuhan virus is political.  Left to themselves the medical community here and worldwide would find ways to save lives.  Unfortunately, we live in an age of red-hair-man bad.  And since he touted the possibility that hydroxychloroquine would help patients, its use is now taboo and controversial.  Medical staff in NYC are screaming, we are killing patients and just putting them on ventilators without trying this anti-inflammatory.  I take this medication daily; and I only need my eyes checked once a year.  That’s it.  This is a must read for doctors and medical providers and a healthy read for the rest of us.  The political division in our country is hampering our ability to fight the virus.  Is there a pill for stupidity?”

Arkady Polishchuk, St. Petersburg, Russia and author of “Dancing on Thin Ice – The Travails of a Russian Dissenter” and “As I Was Burying Comrade Stalin,” shared this revelation into the lack of ethics of Communist China:

Last January, no doubt underestimating the threat to France itself, President Emmanuel Macron made a gift of five million surgical masks to the People’s Republic.   When it became clear, just three weeks later, that France itself might urgently need the masks, Beijing came out with a barrage of excuses to avoid restitution.  And when the French agreed to buy masks at three times the price, China signed the contract but sold a good part of the masks at five times the price to last-minute private buyers from the United States.  Beijing has played the same trick on a number of other countries, notably Chile, which last week lodged formal protest.

Dr. Dan Eichenbaum, Murphy, NC shared the following:

The threat of severe illness and possible death from the COVID-19 Virus is most definitely real and not to be taken lightly.  Nevertheless, the risk has been sensationalized, politicized, and purposefully distorted by politicians and the biased media to serve their political agendas.  This has allowed governments at all levels to use a medical crisis to restrict the freedom of citizens in an unwarranted and oppressive manner.  With adaptive techniques such as social distancing, hand washing, and wearing protective gear, it would have been possible for most businesses to continue operating in a sufficiently safe manner.

Unfortunately, in the current national state of apprehension, otherwise sensible people appear to have lost their ability to think and act rationally.  What is truly frightening and disconcerting is how quickly and without argument or deliberation so many of us are willingly giving up the constitutional rights that differentiate our nation from the dictatorships we condemn.

Federal and state government edicts have restricted freedom of speech, the free exercise of religion, protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, and the right to peaceably assemble to petition the government for redress of grievances.  In addition, the forced closure of businesses arbitrarily deemed “unnecessary,” the compulsory incarceration of people in their homes, and travel restrictions using police roadblocks, road closures, and demands for identity papers all violate the right not to be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.  There is even a suggestion that proof of virus immunity could be used to allow people to work, a population control technique of tyrannical governments.

To put today’s events in proper perspective, consider these facts:

  • Sudden cardiac arrest, the most common cause of natural death in the United States, results in about 325,000 adult deaths in the United States each year.
  • Smoking cigarettes is the cause of over 480,000 deaths every year in the United States.
  • Drug overdose deaths in the US have now reached approximately 70,000 each year.
  • 40% of all hospital beds in the United States are used to treat conditions related to alcohol consumption and abuse.

In spite of all these catastrophic medical and social problems with a death rate far greater than any viral illness, no government has ever shut down the entire national economy to solve these issues.

As a result, the America of today is no longer a Constitutional Republic.  We have now become a Pandemic Dictatorship in which the people are ruled by a panel of government-designated “experts” and appointed bureaucrats whose edicts disregard our constitutionally protected rights.

The Bill of Rights is the contract by which the federal government is required to protect and secure the enumerated rights of each sovereign state and each one of its sovereign citizens.  When our government and judicial system are allowed unilaterally to suspend the individual freedoms and the DUE PROCESS REQUIREMENTS of the Bill of Rights to achieve a political agenda, we are no longer a nation of laws.  We are, in fact, no better than the dictatorships, past and present, whose violations of human rights we now decry.

Restrictions on commerce and business inevitably lead to shortages of food and other necessities.  As the expected social unrest, looting, and violent crime increases, the need for personal protection will be essential.  The globalists have never hidden their outright hatred of the 2nd Amendment and their determination to eliminate the private ownership of guns.  The 2nd Amendment is the most powerful and important tool that We the People possess for self-protection and to secure our freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.  Without the 2nd Amendment, the rest of the Constitution is just words on paper.  For that reason, our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms is constantly in the crosshairs of the collectivist elite.

The lives and fortunes of millions of hard-working Americans and small business owners are being destroyed by the draconian and unconstitutional restrictions placed on the American people.  No government, at any level, can be allowed to unilaterally abolish the Bill of Rights and, thereby, sacrifice the life and liberty of all to potentially save a few.  Our nation is rapidly approaching the point of no return.  It is time for the unconstitutional rule by unelected bureaucrats to be ended and for the rights of the people to be restored.

The ends do not justify the means.

Diane Bederman of Toronto, Canada shared an observation:

Two men and one Global organization managed to accomplish what two world wars could not, the near destruction of Western culture and the end of freedom.  With the flick of a switch, millions of people peacefully gave up their freedom; yes, sir, no sir, anything you say, sir, because of a paralyzing fear of an invisible enemy, an enemy not clearly understood nor defined.

Our actions demean, denigrate and disrespect the sacrifice of millions of men and women who sacrificed their lives for our right to live freely and free from government overreach.

There is a reason for the statement in the Bible “Do not fear, for I am with you,” because fear takes away individual moral agency; free will, allowing others to rule over us.  And it can take years to recover from that fear.

We allowed two men, Ferguson and Fauci, aided and abetted by the WHO, the propaganda arm of the Chinese government, who brought forth the Chinese Virus, to frighten all of us, especially our leaders, to shut down our economies and end our freedom of movement.  Except for one country, Sweden.

There had been predictions that 2.2 million would die in America, alone!  As of May 9, 2020, the GLOBAL death toll is 275,000. In a world of 7.8 billion.

Who are these two men?

Connie Rose-Straube, Kingston, IL remarked on Illinois Governor Pritzker’s declaration that churches must remain closed until he deems otherwise.

“So Pritzker is now saying churches may not fully reopen for a year because of coronavirus. Care to bet?

“He is abridging our First Amendment Rights to practice our religions. There should be a mountain of lawsuits against this tyrant governor.

“Secondly, if pastors, Bishops, Cardinals, church elders, etc. won’t grow a spine and stand up to this tyrant then it is incumbent on all of us to force their hand.  Do not mail in weekly offerings. Just quit tithing.  When the money dries up, watch how fast church leaders find a way to reopen the churches.

“We Catholics are becoming very comfortable watching the Mass on TV from home. If this continues, parishes may not see a return of many parishioners to Sunday Mass, especially senior citizens.”

[It seems I am hearing this message from many readers; this theme seems to underscore what it means to be an American.  We don’t tolerate tyranny too well. – Editor]

TENNESSEE

HB 1706 and SB 2075, Bruce Griffey and Mark Pody, respectively, is legislation that would impose a 7% state tax and up to 2.5% local sales tax on all money transferred out of the United States but only if the sender does not have a valid social security number – in other words, if the sender is an illegal alien.  These revenues would be directed toward reimbursing state and local governments for expenses incurred as a result of the Chinese Wuhan virus.

There are, however, two matters that Representative Griffey and Senator Pody might have considered:

  1. While HB1706 targets illegal aliens who are stealing jobs from Tennesseans while paying ZERO income taxes, wouldn’t it be better to simply deport the illegal aliens?
  2. While the legislation is intended to generate revenues to reimburse the state’s budget over monies that were expended because of the Wuhan virus, wouldn’t it be appropriate to impose a similar tax on ALL products imported from China or produced by Chinese-owned companies operating in the United States?

If you agree, please make your thoughts known to your State Representative and State Senator.  They would very much appreciate hearing from you!

WASHINGTON, DC

+ HR 6800 HEROES Act (Lowey, D-NY, 1815 pages).  The purpose of this bill is to make emergency supplemental appropriations for the Fiscal Year ending 30 September 2020, and for other purposes.  It may be cited as the “Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act.”

This bill increases the FY2020 budget and justifies an additional $3 Trillion in new spending, ostensibly linked to the Wuhan virus.  In reality, the “HEROES Act” is:  a bailout for “Blue States” that, for decades, have mismanaged their budgets and resources; a liberal wish list, and; supplementary funding for various Federal Departments, Agencies, Bureaus, and Offices.  Following is a partial summary of the contents of HR 6800:

  • Nearly $1 trillion for state and local governments, ostensibly to make up for anticipated budget shortfalls due to the virus. $540 billion is earmarked for the states, divided according to a formula.  Under the House bill, Minnesota would get $8 billion.  Its projected revenue shortfall is $2.4 billion, substantially all of which can be covered by the state’s rainy day fund.  So the $8 billion would be Minnesota’s reward for bad behavior.
  • Another round of $1,200 payments to individual Americans.
  • $175 billion goes to health care providers, to reimburse them for lost revenue because “nonessential” health care has largely, and unnecessarily, been made illegal in most states.
  • At least $50 billion will be disbursed to illegal aliens, even though they have never paid one penny in income tax!
  • $100 billion for “stimulus funding” for education. This has no apparent relationship to the coronavirus.
  • Federal and state student loans will be forgiven, up to $10,000 per person even though those loans were acquired years – and sometimes decades – before the Wuhan virus was knowingly released into this country by China.
  • $75 billion in “assistance for homeowners” – not a loan but a grant – to people who are, for whatever reason, arrears in their mortgage payments. Also, $100 billion “to help low-income renters avoid evictions.”  So now, instead of only having to pay for other people’s rent, we also get to pay for their mortgages.
  • State transit authorities will receive $15 billion. This money will help subsidize mass transit systems – subways, busses, commuter rail systems (e.g. Amtrak) who have never made a profit – to relieve the strain on the budgets of cities and states who allowed their transit workers to unionize, became trapped in exorbitant legacy costs, and were, up ‘til now, facing bankruptcy.
  • $75 billion for the U.S. Postal Service as its reward for decades of lousy management (including their own legacy costs!)

The House of Representatives passed Pelosi’s monstrosity on 15 May 2020 without having read it, of course.  One (alleged) Republican, PETER KING, NY and 14 Democrats voted to pass the bill.

The Senate can – and probably will – stop this horrendous bill but it would still be smart to let your Senators know your expectations.  If the Senate goes along with the House, even in reduced form, this would be a great opportunity for President Trump to show some leadership by vetoing the whole mess.

HR 266 Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act Betty McCollum was the original sponsor of this bill but changes were made in the Senate.  The purpose of the bill is to make appropriations for the Department of the Interior, environment, and related agencies for the fiscal year, and for other purposes.  The bill was enacted after being signed by the President on April 24, 2020.

HR 6322 Student Veteran Coronavirus Response Act of 2020 (Takano, D-CA, 5 pages).

This bill to make improvements in the educational assistance benefits under the laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in the case of changes to courses of education by reason of emergency situations, and for other purposes, was signed by the President.

S3665 A Bill to Amend Title XVIII of the Social Security Act to Preserve Access to Rural Health Care by Ensuring Fairness in Medicare Hospital Payments.  (Alexander, R-TN, text not yet available).

This bill is in the first stage of the legislative process. It was introduced into Congress on May 7, 2020. It will typically be considered by committee next before it is possibly sent on to the House or Senate as a whole.

S 945 Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act (Kennedy, R-LA, 10 pages).

This bill would amend the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 to require certain issuers to disclose to the Securities and Exchange Commission information regarding foreign jurisdictions that prevent the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board from performing inspections under that Act.

+ HR 6707 and S 3611 Resources for Workforce Investments, not Drilling Act (may be referred to as the “ReWIND Act”) (Barragan, D-CA and Merkley, D-OR, respectively).

This bill would prevent fossil fuel companies from receiving business loans from the CARES Act.  It would also:

  • Ban the issuing of new fossil fuel leases, e.g. for drilling, until the official national emergency is over.
  • Prevent banks which received CARES Act loans from either owning or investing in fossil fuel companies.
  • Prevent the President from using the Defense Production Act to make loans to fossil fuel companies.
  • Clarifies that privately-owned oil cannot be stored in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), a stockpile of oil intended for the public during emergencies.

+ HR 6666 COVID-19 Testing, Reaching And Contacting Everyone (TRACE) Act (Rush, D-IL, 3 pages).

This bill authorizes the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to eligible entities to conduct diagnostic testing for COVID-19, and related activities such as contact tracing, through mobile health units and, as necessary, at individuals’ residences, and for other purposes.

This bill, if passed, would virtually shred the 4th Amendment rights of American Citizens.

+HR 6172 USA FREEDOM Reauthorization Act of 2020 (Nadler, D-NJ, 58 pages).

The stated purpose of this bill is “To amend the Foreign Surveillance Act of 1978 to prohibit the production of certain business records, and for other purposes.”  While that may well be a part of the purpose of Mr. Nadler’s bill it most certainly is not the motive.

As more disturbing evidence surfaces revealing the putridity of the Democrat’s coup against President Trump, the Democrats are beginning to fear their crimes – and the criminals who perpetrated them – will be revealed.  This bill is one of many attempts we have seen – and will see going forward – to not only cloak damning evidence under the guise of protecting national security but to eventually enable the destruction of such evidence.

This bill passed in the House of Representatives and was forwarded to the Senate.  The Senate passed the bill but made changes to it.  Therefore, the bill was returned to the House of Representatives for consideration of the Senate’s changes prior to a subsequent vote.

S 3176 United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2020 (Rubio, R-FL, 17 pages).  The people of Israel have suffered relentless rocket attacks, many of which were launched from Syria, and funded by Iran.  This bill amends the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the United States – Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2014, to make improvements to certain defense and security provisions (including materiel that improves Israel’s ability to defend its people from such attacks), and to authorize appropriations of funds to Israel through this decade.

PN 1615 On the Nomination of John L. Ratcliffe, of Texas, to be Director of National Intelligence.  The confirmation passed by a vote of 49/44.  While John Ratcliffe is imminently qualified to serve as DNI, his presence in the House of Representatives will be sorely missed.  On 26 May, John Ratcliffe was sworn in at a ceremony at the White House.  Let us hope the good people of his district will find a suitable replacement!

+ HR 6211 Earmark Elimination Act of 2020 (Ralph Norman, R-SC, 6 pages).

This bill would prohibit in the House of Representatives the consideration of any legislation containing an earmark.

HR 6782 TRUTH Act (Phillips, D-MN, 1 page).

This bill may be cited as the “Small Business Transparency and Reporting for the Underbanked and Taxpayers at Home Act.”

This bill requires the Small Business Administration (SBA) to make information regarding economic relief measures implemented in response to COVID-19 (i.e., coronavirus disease 2019) publicly available.

Specifically, with respect to the Paycheck Protection Program and economic injury disaster loans and emergency grants, the SBA must publish (1) the identity of each recipient of assistance and an explanation of the decision-making process underlying such disbursal; (2) the number of employees of each recipient and the date on which such assistance was disbursed; (3) an identification of each lender or intermediary through which assistance was disbursed; and (4) the amount of assistance disbursed to small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, women, and veterans.

HR 6970  To prevent States from receiving Federal financial assistance if such States tax the income of an out-of-State volunteer providing assistance during a disaster or emergency, and for other purposes (DesJarlais, R-TN)

The text of this bill has not yet been made available.
